Kathryn Dynes Klemp

Kathryn Dynes Klemp is a professional artist residing in Hartford, Wisconsin with her husband Ron. She has been painting for 17 years.

A native of Wisconsin, Kathryn Klemp is a classically trained professional artist whose formal art school training included advanced studies of painting and drawing.  Her painting subjects are influenced by nature, particularly Audubon and forest elements that were part of her environment as a youth. Kathryn started painting in high school after she spent a summer building a house with a humanitarian group in India.  They spent many days that summer traveling on the Indian Train Network watching the spectacular changes in environment as they traveled from Mumbai to Chennai and later up to New Delhi.  While in India she would draw whenever she had free time. After her trip to India she wanted to start using paints to express the beauty of nature around her.

Kathryn's current work uses pattern, color, and movement to show freedom and grace.
Her work belongs in collections such as The State of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin - Madison, and Lewis University in Illinois.

Artist Statement

Living in the Upper Midwest has greatly shaped my art.  We have beautiful wildlife and landscapes.  The summers are full of lush greens.  The falls are rich in reds, oranges, and yellows.  Winters are full of blues, browns, and whites.  I paint with the same beautiful colors that I experience from year to year.  I use oil paints because they are fluid and slow drying which allows me to paint the pattern in the background.  The subject matter represents freedom and grace.  The backgrounds are painted with a patterned brushwork representing a place of hope.  I combine the patterned abstract backgrounds with the subject matter to show the places we hope to go by spiritually, physically, and psychologically embracing both freedom and grace.

There is no need to frame Kathryn's work because she paints the edges of the gallery stretched canvas.  She does this so that the image is viewable from all points of view.  It  engages the viewer sooner into the piece and gives it a more contemporary look.

In addition to oil paintings Kathryn paints murals for residential and business clients.  She also does demonstrations for schools and organizations.  She is available for private lessons and workshops.  You can contact her at 262-388-0635.
